Challenge
Considering this was the first of it’s kind anywhere, attention to detail and careful handling of the installation was of utmost importance. The video wall is 9 feet tall and 37 feet wide covering 333 square feet of wall space. It weighs over 5,700lbs or 2.7 tons. For reference, the average large car weighs about 4,000lbs or 2 tons.
The canvas size 13,440px x 3,240px with a pixel pitch of 0.84mm. The wall consists of 84 individual monitors which had to be installed delicately to say the least.
Solution
Here’s the catch, the surface of the LED wall had to stay within a narrow tolerance of 1/16th of an inch across the entire 37 feet. Working with Samsung, AmpThink’s mechanical engineers went to the drawing board and came back with a solution that would allow the LED surface to sit as flat as possible. In lieu of using building materials to create a perfectly flat wall,
AmpThink Manufacturing designed and manufactured a unique adjustable bracket solution that would complement the Samsung LED wall cabinet.
The result was a cabinet which maintained the directed 1/16” or less variance across 333sf of LED surface or 35/1000ths of an inch. Which is about the thickness of a credit card. This low amount variance is critically important in keeping all monitor edges aligned on their X, Y and Z axis, creating a completely flat surface with no gaps or protruding edges.
Outcome
The AmpThink team managed the entire installation process, from designing and fabricating the mounting solution to integrating eight 4K Samsung S-Box processors for seamless content mapping in a first-of-its-kind control room. AmpThink's execution set a new standard in sub-1mm LED installation, showcasing their expertise in handling complex, high-precision projects.
