AmpThink was tasked with modernizing the Mall of AMerica's main rotunda display, replacing an aging Daktronics screen with a state-of-the-art Samsung LED display. This project not only involved the installlation of new technology but also aimed to enhance the utility of the rotunda as a venue for events, ultimately providing additional revenue opportunities for the mall.
Innovative Solutions
Retrofitting Existing Infrastructure
To minimize costs and installation time, AmpThink developed a custom mount solution that allowed the new Samsung display to be retrofitted onto the existing Daktronics structural steel. This approach utilized adapter brackets specifically designed for this purpose, which significantly reduced the complexity and duration of the installation process. By reusing as much of the existing infrastructure as possible, AmpThink demonstrated a commitment to sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
Rapid Deployment and Monetization
The installation was completed within a week, allowing the Mall of America to quickly capitalize on its new asset. Almost immediately after deployment, the mall rented the display to Peloton for a product demonstration event. This event showcased how easily local HDMI inputs could be integrated into the system, facilitating quick setups for various rental opportunities. The Peloton event alone recovered nearly 10% of the display's cost, illustrating an effective return on investment in a very short time frame.
Use of AmpThink OS
AmpThink's proprietary operating system (OS) played a crucial role in this project by integrating seamlessly with the mall's existing WiPro IPTV core.
